Bayou Cane Fire Protection District Firefighters Honored
JULY 14, 2014 – CYNTHIANA, KY – The firefighters of Bayou Cane Fire Protection District will always remember the events of New Year's Eve 2013 when they responded to a residential house fire with a person trapped inside. Thanks to their training, coupled with their quick response and the use of a thermal imager these firefighters saved the life of a 71 year old blind man.
Captain Cody Hebert and Captain Tory Bienvenu entered the structure first and quickly began attacking the fire, making it possible for Captain Kurt Detillier and Engineer Brandon Jackson to begin searching the bedrooms with the Bullard Eclipse® Thermal Imager. Engineer Brandon Jackson located the victim lying of the floor, using the thermal imager. “When the crew entered the duplex, there was zero degree visibility,” said Battalion Chief Brian Boudreaux. “The duplex was approximately 50 percent involved in smoke.”
When the search team reached the victim he was unconscious and gasping for air. The victim was quickly transported to a waiting ambulance for medical treatment and has made a full recovery. “The thermal imaging camera made the difference in saving this man's life,” said Battalion Chief Boudreaux. “We were able to scan the duplex in less than five minutes and get him out of the building.”
Captain Tory Bienvenu, Captain Kurt Detillier, Captain Cody Hebert and Engineer Brandon Jackson were inducted into the Bullard Save-A-Life Club on July 14, 2014. The Save-A-Life Club honors firefighters who have saved a life while using a Bullard Thermal Imager.
